Official Rules & Guidelines

 

1. General Information

  • Event Name: BAND UP! Audition 2025 (Brisbane QLD)

  • Audition Date: 23 March 2025

  • Audition Location: 1/42 Mount Gravatt Capalaba Road, Upper Mount Gravatt, QLD 4122

  • Participation Fee: $50 per musician / per category

  • Audition Categories:

    • Vocals

    • Guitar

    • Bass

    • Keyboard

    • Drum Kit

  • Age Groups:

    • 7-11 years old

    • 12-17 years old

2. Audition Process

  • Each contestant must register and pay the participation fee in order to audition.

  • Contestants will perform individually in their selected category.

  • Performance duration: Maximum 3 minutes per audition / per category.

  • Backing tracks are allowed for vocals and certain instrumental auditions. Live accompaniment is also permitted.

  • Judges will assess performances based on musicality, technique, stage presence, and creativity.

  • If you can't attend the in-person audition, you may submit a video recording. However, in-person auditions are strongly preferred, as videos may not fully capture your performance and presence.

3. Selection Criteria

  • Contestants will be evaluated by a panel of professional musicians and industry experts.

  • Selected participants will be invited to form a band under the mentorship of experienced coaches.

  • Judging Criteria (100 points total):

    • Technical Ability (30 points) – Accuracy, control, and proficiency.

    • Musicality & Expression (30 points) – Tone, dynamics, and emotion.

    • Stage Presence (20 points) – Confidence, engagement, and performance energy.

    • Creativity & Originality (20 points) – Unique style and interpretation.

4. Band Formation & Training

  • Chosen contestants will be required to attend a compulsory band training course to develop teamwork, stage performance, and professional musicianship. Enrolment in this course requires a tuition fee.

  • Regular rehearsals will be scheduled to prepare for upcoming performance opportunities. Your enrolment includes scheduled band rehearsals at no extra cost.

5. Social Media Branding & Management

Selected bands will receive assistance in establishing their official social media presence. Our team will guide them through content creation, audience engagement, and brand development to help them build a strong online following.

6. Professional Studio Recording & Music Video Production

Each band will have the opportunity to record a professional-quality track in a studio environment. This includes full production, mixing, and mastering. Additionally, a high-quality music video will be produced to showcase the band's performance and artistic identity.

7. Performance Opportunities

Selected bands will have the chance to perform at prestigious events, including:

  • EKKA (The Royal Queensland Show)

  • Potential City Hall Performance

  • Potential Movie World Performance

  • Well-known artist’s pre-concert performance

*Performance opportunities are available as part of the program. Please note that certain events may require additional costs for attire or specific arrangements.

8. Important Notes
•    Participants must bring their own instruments (except drum kits and keyboards, which will be provided).

•    Contestants must arrive at least 20 minutes before their scheduled audition time

•    Your actual audition time will be notified in a separate email before the audition. Please make sure to check your email. 
•    All audition performances will be recorded for internal review and promotional purposes.
•    Refunds are not available for missed auditions or withdrawals.

•    No personal recording devices are allowed within audition studios.

Course Overview

Develop essential musical skills, collaborate in a band, and gain real-world performance experience through structured training and live performances!

Band Practice

Band Operations & Rehearsal Techniques

Students will learn how to structure and run a band rehearsal effectively, including time management, communication, and role distribution. They will develop teamwork skills to improve coordination and overall performance quality.

Drummer Red

Stage Performance Training

This module covers stage presence, movement, and confidence-building techniques. Students will practice engaging with audiences, handling performance anxiety, and adapting to unexpected situations during live shows.

Guitar Strings

Instrument Mastery & Sound Adjustment

Professional guidance will be provided for guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals. Students will learn techniques specific to their instruments, including tone shaping, effects usage, and mixing within a full-band setting.

Music Recording

Recording &
Sound System Basics

Students will gain hands-on experience with recording software, microphones, and mixing techniques. They will learn how to record rehearsals, adjust sound levels, and understand basic live sound engineering principles.

Guitar Playing

Song Arrangement & Creativity

Students will explore how to arrange songs for a band, adjusting melodies, harmonies, and instrumentation to enhance the overall sound. They will also develop improvisation and songwriting skills to foster creativity.

Music Concert

Live Performance & Evaluation

The course concludes with a live performance where students showcase their progress. Instructors will provide constructive feedback to help them refine their skills and prepare for future performances, competitions, or musical opportunities.
